What is pulmonary rehabilitation?
Pulmonary rehabilitation is a program for individuals who have shortness of breath and have a difficult time performing routine daily living activities. The program is run by a team of medical professionals who are specially trained to care for people with a variety of lung diseases. Pulmonary rehabilitation is an individually tailored, exercise and education program aimed at helping participants regain their strength and endurance, achieve personal goals, and perform daily living activities with greater ease.

What are classes like?
Each session consists of an educational lecture/discussion portion followed by an exercise session of monitored exercise in a group setting (individualized to meet each patient's ability).
How often and how long is the program?
The program meets 3 days/week for approximately 90 minutes. The program length is six to ten weeks and depends on the participant's insurance coverage and individual needs. Regular attendance is important in order to achieve the most benefit from the program.
How many participants are in each class?
Classes are small, which allows us to focus on individual participant goals. The maximum number of participants in an exercise class is eight.
How do I enroll?
A referral from your physician is required to attend pulmonary rehabilitation. Have your physician call 443-682-6648 or fax a referral form to 410-547-2499 with your name, diagnosis, contact information and pertinent clinical information. We will then contact you to further discuss our program, set up an evaluation appointment and give you directions to our facility.
Is the program covered by my insurance?
Medicare and most supplemental and/or private insurance companies cover Pulmonary Rehabilitation for participants who meet criteria for entrance. Our staff will perform a thorough evaluation, contact your insurance company to verify coverage, and inform you of any possible out of pocket expenses prior to starting the program.
What if I'm on oxygen at home or need oxygen during exercise?
Oxygen is provided by the center during class.
What do I wear to my sessions?
Wear comfortable, loose fitting sports attire such as shorts or jogging pants, athletic shoes, t-shirts or polo shirts.
Is parking available?
There are parking spaces reserved just for Pulmonary Rehabilitation patients in the underground garage. Validated, free parking is available for patients during class sessions.
